Rhonda, you do what you like...."Blogger" has some great tutorials on what appeals to viewers but I just looked a very blog I came across, copied what I liked and went from there. Hope that helps.
It is hard on my eyes too. I got a lot of feedback on my blog being too hard on the eyes so I had the fiesta colors removed from the background. When the giveaway is over, I'm going back to my soothing green....I need some soothing...LOL
